MANGO ROOM -CAMDEN (literally opposite camden station) 10-12 Kentish Town Road, London NW1 8NH www.mangoroom.co.uk
Booked for 6 at 9 on Saturday for Ris bday. The restaurant was busy busy, most tables booked for occassions with the odd walk in dressed in Halloween get up.
Most of us had the Mango Room speciality cocktail which tasted of pure rum, which was quite a shock to the palette, strong with little room for fruit juice.
It was a mistake not ordering starters as we were waiting behind many tables of 7/8. After an hour and a half of chit chat the food arrived and it didnt dissapoint. I had chicken breast with a coconut sauce with a side of rice. It was definetely worth the wait. Many guys had the Jerk chicken (traditional Jamaican dish) with all the must have sides rice and peas, plantain, bread fruit....
This place is definetely a must go to ... roughly 25 pounds per person including a cocktail ...
be prepared to wait ... sample the cocktail list

DRUNKEN MONKEY - SHOREDITCH
Reservations were made for 9 at the Drunken Monkey, on Great Eastern st, Shoreditch (nearest tube is old street). We entered into a very red ... restaurant/bar... the music was extremey loud and the place was pretty crammed. The restaurant area was up some stairs at the back where there was nooo air con just just fans... we sat near the fire exit and kitchen (not ideal). The waitress (rastawinehouse) brought us complimentary "stale " prawn crackers. I ordered a pineapple Monkey mojito (7 pounds) which was extrememly refreshing .. extremely good .. (the place has special happy hour times on their mojitos) Ri had a strawberry Dacquiri which was good... strong... but quite bitter. Later on I had a Drunken Pear (pear liqueur/prosecco based) yum yum yum but to me tasted like coconut (maybe because I was slightly tipsy... Ri reasurred me it was Pear lol) She had Strawberry Lemonade .... which was quite sweet but good.
As for the food...(chinese) the menu was pretty odd.. (reasonable prices) because it was pretty much dim sum and side dishes like rice and noodles, there were no main meals to go with the rice and noddles. We had the chicken satay and the Singapore noodles with chicken.. the food was ok but after half a plate of noodles we were bored ...
with it...
The drinks were definetely the highlight and it was clear this is why the bar was booming ... I will definetely come back for the cocktails unfortunately not the food.

THIS WEEKEND
TRADER VICS/ PARK LANE/GREEN PARK (basement of the Hilton Hotel Park Lane)
The last time I was here I was 18, it was my birthday ... so we hired out a limo (got drunk before we even arrived ) it was pretty hilarious falling down the spiral stairs to get to the bar... well I thought it was funny at the time.I was in good company (college friends) WE ALL HAD A BLAST!
The place was very dark , the decor :tiki ... the staff: rude ... the atmosphere was ... mmmm conservative ...I got the impression that most people dining/drinking here were staying in the Hilton Hotel.
The cocktails: were out of this world ...reasonable prices 7-8 pounds and lets just say you only needed a couple to be "merry"
My fave cocktails (pina colada and banana daquiri) tasted how they should...they were not overloaded with cream (like most places) or fruit juice (so you could actually taste the alcohol)
We had a side of cherries on crushed ice... which was a good idea at the time ... only when we got the bill did we realise that the tinned cherries over ice (not fresh) were around 15 pounds.
Any way 7 years on and its time to go back... to see whether the cocktails are still as good as they were .. to see whether the atmosphere has livened up ....and whether the cliental was the same...

PLACES TO EAT- CHINESE
My ultimate fave has to be THE GOOD EARTH in Hendon (north london) there are other branches in Knightsbridge... but the hendon branch is epic he he he
This place is pretty expensive ...ideal for an occasion or if your looking to impress ...
To start- smoked chicken/hot and sour soup/chicken satay/tempura
Main- crispy duck/chicken and lemongrass/seabass/chilli beef/ fillet steak (cooked in a clay pot in front of you)
Finish- normally in chinese restaurants the desserts are dire ... but here you have to have the toffee apple/banana..
NEW CHINA- china town (london) On the corner of china town (2 min walk from Leicester sq tube)
Beware the bottle of wine we consumed was more expensive than all the food put together ...
The Chilli beef was a hit and all the noodle dishes oh and vegetable spring rolls

PLACES TO EAT- MOROCCAN
mmmm YALLA YALLA * Moroccan food yum yum

Very light and airy ... with benches and separate tables
my fave dishes are ...here goes.. Hummus, falafel, batata hara, fattoush and chicken Taouk.(chicken kebab)
sooo good and to finish Yalla jou jou (its like cinammon and vanilla ice cream)
MAISON TOUAREG (Moroccan and Lebanese Kitchen) 23-24 Greek st soho
http://www.maisontouareg.co.uk/
Red and dark deor ... this place is in the bustly streets of soho so ideal if you are hitting the bars or trotting down to Leicester sq after. I dont actually have much recollection from this place seeing as I had been drinking all afternoon with the x... in all bar one (leicester sq) so I was dining with the x and a friend ... weird I know .... but the food was good ...
We all shared the dishes... Chicken kebab, Fattoush, Falafel, Hummus, Cheese Pasteries and Halloumi
EL CANTARA (Moroccan and Spanish) 45 Frith St Soho
http://www.elcantara.co.uk/
The food similar to the above and yalla ... but to be honest not as good .... BUT the entertainment was good . We came here on a Friday night and there was Spanish dancing and Belly dancing .. unfortunately that was the best part of the night and the pistachio ice cream.

LONDON BARS
Like most girls I love cocktails ... recently I have experienced some great ones...in some LUXE bars ...
FOUNDATION BAR/ LANGLEY ST/COVENT G big haunt ...low lighting with seating in cave booths...
Go before 8 ... happy hour but stock up on cocktails ...the bar gets rammed ... have the Cinnamon and Apple Mojito ...
Good after work place... and so is ZEBRANO/CARNABY ST... happy hour before 8 ...grab a mojito....warning book a table otherwise expect to stand all night....
If you want to dance and laugh at the faces in this place.... YATES /LECEISTER SQ ... girls beware men come here to purposely pull and try and get a night of action ... drinks are cheapish but the wine is pretty bad so stick to malibu and pineapple or beer ... the best thing about this place is the cheesy music (80s pop rnb) and the sexz bartender Benny who has the best smile and the best arms.
If your looking for pure LUXE then go to AQUA BAR/WALDOUR ST beware very pricey but if your looking to impress this is the place ... take the mirrored lift up to the bar...order and refresh ... step out onto one of two balconies and take in London step back into Japanese eating...
